Tiny Berry Dog Sweater
This year Heart Hook Home is doing a 2024 Dog Cochet Series, during which I share one new pattern per month. For February I released a Wild Berry Dog Sweater to match our new human Wild Berry Pullovers. This Tiny Berry Dog Sweater pattern is not technically part of the 2024 Dog Crochet Series, but it IS part of that sweater line… meaning EVERYONE GETS A SWEATER!! 🎉
This little nugget is Carmen and she is a TINY Chihuahua/Terrier mix that weighs about 1.9 lbs (~860g). Look at those looooong legs! 🤗 She is the most adorable thing ever and loves wearing all kinds of clothing. In fact, when I first met Carmen she was wearing a costume for a HAMSTER because that is just how small she is. As you can imagine, hamster sweaters are hard to come by, so I’m very happy we were able to get little miss a new wardrobe!
Very smalls dogs often like to wear sweaters to stay warm and cozy, and small dog owners often like to see their furry friends dressed up. The best of both world collide with the Tiny Berry Dog Sweater. ♥ Here is Henry (5 lbs) modeling the XS size of the sweater. He’s looking so dapper waiting for that treat! Ha!
Designing and testing these little sweaters was so fun. The entire time I kept thinking they were never going to fit but they did perfectly, and I just know that this will be the go-to sweater crochet pattern for TINY dogs.
Another great thing about these crochet sweaters for tiny dogs is that often they work for cats as well. If your feline friend likes sweaters then you may give this free pattern a try! If you do, be sure to let me know how it turns out so I can update this post. Crochet sweaters for cats are hard to find too!
Carmen is seen here sporting her various new sweaters. To make yours, any sport weight yarn will suffice. Pictured here in gray is “Dove Heather” in Brava Sport yarn, the orange is “Grapefruit” in Shine Sport yarn, and the rainbow is a gorgeous mini-hank that I purchased at a fancy yarn shop in Georgetown, CO on a vacation last year. I knew Carmen needed a fiesta sweater in her life!
Remember that you can find the larger sizes of the Wild Berry Dog Sweater (sizes S, M, L) here.
